Like mike say's it is the thrill of finding something old, like anything else you got to have good equipment and know how to use it. If I was a millionaire I'd do it every day because it's not about the money. I don't detect to get rich, but for the thrill of discovery. It's quite a feeling when you go to a spot you've been researching and find a coin that's been hidden for over 100 years.
