Pauli: Winthrop is a good guess, but it’s actually Wellesley. She left JP when she was a toddler and moved to Wellesley with her mother.

Wow…just last night I was reading a Smithsonian magazine from a few years ago on Sylvia Plath! I thought she came from Winthrop…but maybe she just grew up there or was born there.

I stumbled upon a letter Plath wrote to her mother on sale in one of the stores selling original writings and autographs on Madison Avenue. Plath was visiting a friend and promised her mother she would get fresh air and excercise. She had been out that day and it was cold and the “air was swimmingly blue,” she wrote. How poetic.
