My Obligatory Red Sox Post

Red_Sox_logo.jpgThere’s a team up my way. Maybe you’ve heard of them? The Red Sox. Anyway, they won a big game a few nights ago and now they’re entered into an even bigger game. If they win, they get to call themselves world champions even though countries like Turkey, Thailand and Nigeria never got to enter.

Anyway, the owners of the Red Sox are two-thirds baby boomers: John Henry (born 1949), Tom Werner (born 1950), Larry Lucchino (born 1945; close, but not a baby boomer). I thought you’d want to know.

    Funny first paragraph.

I think we have different attitudes about the World Series. By the way Canada has a team, so that qualifies for the status of “World” This is my holy grail of sporting events. I have watched every World Series since 1955 and this year is special because a local Vancouver boy, Jeff Francis is pitching for the Colorado Rockies which in case you didn’t know is the other team. Boston has a great team and it should be a fantastic series. It’s also the only sporting event I bet on yearly. Dinners are eaten in front of the TV, no talking is allowed unless it is about the game, no phones are answered, the doorbell and cell phones are turned off. After all, 18 players and managers worth a few hundred million dollars deserve our full attention-well maybe not yours.

Nessa: Funny? Wasn’t supposed to be.
Savvy: Wow, you take it that seriously?! I didn’t know a Canuck was even allowed on an American team. But I guess that does make it a World series. Have fun watching the games.

Baseball is saved from being the most boring major sport by, of course, soccer.

I’m happy the Red Sox are going to the series. Also happy for the Rockies. Don’t know who I’m going to root for yet since I like both teams. Should be a good series.

  7. Anvilcloud Says:

What was the name of that team again? Can’t seem to remember. :)

Gotta love the Sox. The curse was vanquished three years ago, and now you don’t have to worry like you did – they can take the lead and hold onto it. And the Sox did the right thing and have the best record in MLB, and get the home-field advantage through the World Series – Fenway favors them over other teams. GO SOX!

“Red Sox”…. ummmm… baseball, right? I’d love to sit and listen to a conversation between you and Ruby. I’ll bet I’d never get a word in edgewise.

My son is in Denver and he has tickets to game 5. I bet you can guess who I have to root for!

My mom and aunt are so excited – the possibility of seeing the Red Sox possibly win a second World Series in their lifetimes is just more than they ever expected!

I’m a reformed Red Sox fan (went over to the Dark Side – the Yankees – when the Sox lost to the Mets in ‘86; my husband is a Yankee fan). But now that the Yankees are out of the race, I can root wholeheartedly for my first baseball love, the Red Sox.

BTW, I have awarded you with an “Absolutely Fabulous Blogger” award on my blog! You can go pick it up here:

[...] Today is Red Sox Day in Boston — a day to celebrate the World Series win. I went down to meet some of the fans lining the parade route. There were a whole lot of kids, tons of young adults and a goodly number of baby boomers in the crowd. The event is almost over, and there is still shouting in the streets. [...]
