Hey, baby boomers. Here’s BloggingBoomers Carnival #48.
The economy isn’t doing too great, but the job market isn’t all doom and gloom for 50-plussers! Gen Plus takes a quick look at this month’s national forecast.
There was a time when everyone knew who the heavyweight champion was. Ever heard of Wladimir Klitschko? Oleg Maskaev? Ruslan Chagaev? Sultan Ibragimov? According to the four different authorities who govern professional boxing, those are the names of the current heavyweight champion. I Remember JFK reminisces on this topic.

I do like the idea of the whole family wearing identical “kimono’s” though, they look so trendy in orange too – and the idea of buying my wife a tumble dryer for xmas has possibilities – if I want a divorce that is.

What exactly were you writing about as camp newspaper reporter? If it was my summer camp then missing items (especially flashlights) would have topped the list, followed by the crime beat (especially break-ins by raccoons), warnings that Parents Visiting Day was coming, and weather reports (hot during day and cold at night). Perhaps a feature on snipe hunting to round out the week.

Gary: Glad to be useful!
Wesley: I don’t recall what our camp newspaper topics were, but you are probably on the mark!

Some long term contracts I had just dried up recently, so as I had done for years, I reached out to contacts that had hired me over and over in the past, but this time to no avail. I then started ‘applying’ for jobs the way most folks do, something I hadn’t done, well, ever. With reactions being lukewarm at best here in the local market, I began to get the disitinct feeling that being age 60 had something to do with it. Then a national company came knocking at the door, asking what it would take to get me on board. So there is hope for older boomers after all, you just have to expand your horizons a bit.

Maryland is my 5th home state but I’ve now lived here 23 years. I’ve been in my radio career for 34 years, a photographer for more than 40 years and an avid reader for more years than that. Now if only I could have an address or a wife for as many years as any of those things.
