The Fat of the Land
We are finally accepting the reality that America is fat, very fat. There is an intriguing look at obesity in the U.S. by one of the authors of the best-selling Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything.
I recently read a book called Fatland: How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World by Greg Critser which includes a fascinating chapter about palm oil and the political reasons our food is suffused with it.
In the meantime, if you are struggling with your weight you may want to check out a piece on Diet Blog about “Why People Eat More” than they should.

As an ex-personal trainer, I can attest to the fact that there is enough research and reasoning behind the present state of adipose tissue in the US to clog ALL of our arteries!
However, the bottom line is that people eat too much, they eat the wrong foods, and they simply don’t get enough exercise. We are all too busy being “convenienced” by our modern lifestyle to take the time to cook a healthy meal and go for a walk after dinner!
I, for one, am as busy as the next guy, but it is literally part of my short-term and long-term goals in life to retain a reasonable level of health. But, that’s just me!

I agree. Too much food, too little exercise. I was amazed how I could get myself into shape with just two 1-workouts a week at the gym.
