BloggingBoomers Carnival #56
It’s my turn to host the BloggingBoomers Carnival. Why not relax, draw a hot bath, and peruse the items we have for baby boomers today (Be sure to unplug computer before entering bathtub).
Researchers are discovering that the biological impact of social isolation reaches down into some of our most basic internal processes — the activity of a boomer’s genes. Read more at So Baby Boomer.
Wendy at Gen Plus provides a window on her process of having a child through an anonymous sperm donor. She’ll also introduce you to her mom’s latest book, Cryo Kid: Drawing a New Map. It will get you thinking about the shift in family definitions due to technology. Read more at Gen Plus.
Turns out the baby boomers’ parents (from the Great Depression) were right: live within your means. The ‘new’ economy of housing woes and credit crunching are forcing people to lay off credit cards, pay cash-as-you-go and (gulp) actually live within their means. Read more at The Wastrel Show.
Bold swaths of pastels have turned up on fashion runways this spring. Is it a look that can work for boomer women? Read more about what Deborah and JoJami have to say about this latest trend at Fabulous after 40.
Being a baby boomer is no excuse not to do your first triathlon. Read more at LifeTwo.
Millions of men believe feminism has turned them into second-class citizens, according to some recent surveys. Read more at Contemporary Retirement.
Learn more about a conference of Orthodox Jewish feminists — and that’s not an oxymoron. Read more at Don’t Gel Yet.
While pondering column ideas this morning, says Ron from the site I Remember JFK, the thought of Buddy Holly popped into my head. Being a Don McLean fan, I thought, “Why not write about the the day the music died?” So I set out to go to work. It was after I had invested a half hour of my time that I realized that the infamous plane crash occurred 49 years this very day (Feb. 3, press time). Read more at I Remember JFK.
Lastly, are you a single boomer wanting to find a mate? Here’s a handy list of websites that cater to you. Read more at The Boomer Chronicles.

You know, when when I read most of your posts, it’s obvious that you are just a nice girl from Jersey.
Have you ever considered moving back there?
Sperm donors, radical feminists… what dreck! I’ve met them. They belong in mental wards.
Concern with such things is the inevitable outcome of the indoctrination you received in college, particularly if (as it seems) you went through journalism school.
Woodstock, which is one of my homes, serves as a crash pad for the detritus of the left’s crazy social movements. Every generation, the looniest casualties of the left’s social movements land in town.
And, they always think that they are “free thinkers.” They are not. They are just the worst victims of the standard indoctrination of a liberal arts college. I went through the same thing. Those professors who used their classrooms to indoctrinate you were abusing their professional privileges.
Do yourself a favor. Move to suburban Jersey. Forget the crappy, tiresome and grubby social movement nonsense. Rid yourself of the indoctrination. Journalism as a profession is dying. Learn a serviceable technical skill.
I get the feeling, reading your blog, that you are really just a normal hetero Jersey girl. Why are you wasting your time with this tedious, grim trash?
