Turning Amish
I've Moved! The Boomer Chronicles has closed after 6 years, but you can keep up with me on my new blog at http://www.rheabecker.com
We have finally recognized that our natural resources are dwindling and that it’s important to conserve in any way we can. Did you know you could dramatically cut your power use and utility bills by becoming Amish? I’m not joking.
If you explore the products that Amish people use, you will find that they’ve thought of just about everything: gas refrigerators, composting toilets, manual food strainers, solar-powered attic fans, steam juicers, reel mowers, and on and on. A friend of mine who has lived in Boston for many years buys and uses these Amish-inspired items. So, you don’t have to move to the country if you don’t want to. As for me, I’m going to Amish country in Ohio this summer to explore further.

So nice to have found this site. I, too, am a baby boomer (a young one) and have had a midlife crisis (a big one) and am particularly interested in the Amish. What are the chances of finding a site that includes all of these themes?!
I grew up in central Pennsylvania on a farm and have always thought that the Amish get it right in so many ways. I live in Chicago now and try to get back to PA as much as possible. I got a buggy ride on my 43rd birthday last October. It was wonderful.
Anyhoo, I couldn’t help but notice your midlife crisis checklist. My goodness. It describes what I went through perfectly. Where did it come from? And are there posts on your site that address that terrible transition?
I’m coming out the other side of it but it’s not been easy. So was just searching for others who have had similar experiences.
Enjoy your site. Keep up the great work!
