Baby Boomer Elected U.S. President*
The Obamas are IN THE HOUSE! I attended three parties last night: the giant John Kerry for Senator party at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. Then I migrated over to the cool little bookstore in my Jamaica Plain neighborhood, Rhythm & Muse. There, a great group of progressives from the ‘hood gathered in tight quarters around a large-screen TV. Then I went across the street to The Alchemist restaurant/bar for Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. People were crying. Black people. White people. It was so moving. Walking home down the main drag of Jamaica Plain at one in the morning, people were greeting each other with horns honking, hand slaps, and yells of “Obama!” I have hope for this country today.
*Rest assured, this is the only place on the Web that you will see this headline today.

How lucky you are to live in that neighborhood! I’m thrilled with the election results

Well, a true milestone has now been reached for me personally, as he is about 14 months younger than me! (feeling pretty old here now…)
But it is also good as he is a fellow tail-end babyboomer (from 1960-64) and we ARE different from our older cousins and siblings born in the late 40’s and 1950’s. He really is a bridge between the boomers and the Gen-Xers and beyond!

Sadly Prop 8 passed.

That is a major down in all this election hoopla. That sucks. How rude that those folks think they can deny social acceptance of other people.

Too bad about Prop 8. But otherwise, oh happy day!

Relevantly, as many influential experts and publications have repeatedly pointed out, Obama is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and Xers.
Here’s a recent 5 minute GenJones video which features many top pundits specifically talking about Obama’s membership in Generation Jones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ta_Du5K0jk

I’d never heard the term before but it certainly is a good description of us otherwise known as tail-end Baby Boomers. I for one had a hard time at first deciding between Hilary and Obama.

I’m so relieved! What a wonderful day! (except for prop 8 in CA)

Yes, Joy, it has been a marvelous day except for that.

I wish I lived somewhere that lots of people were celebrating. The Mountain Man and I are mostly soloing our dance of joy.

OH, Janet, I wish I could beam you over here to Boston!

I just had a discussion over at my blog regarding Obama being a Baby Boomer – and one of my commenters told me about Generation Jones. I had never heard of this! But it makes sense to me that the later Boomers wouldn’t identify with the same things as the earlier ones. 1946-64 was a very wide range.
I am still walking on clouds from this election – it is amazing.
