Model’s Bulging Stomach Raises Cheers

In the September issue of Glamour magazine, a photo of Lizzi Miller, a “plus-size” model who wears sizes 12 or 14, has raised a storm. (First, how is that plus-size??) Anyway, the photo shows her in a relaxed pose with a ‘poochy’ stomach. Women are exulting over the photo because magazines never show that kind of thing. Cynthia Leive, editor-in-chief of Glamour, writes in a blog post that she has received a flood of emails and letters from people expressing “joy at seeing a woman’s body with all the curves and quirks and rolls found in nature.” Model Miller, 20, is 180 pounds, 5-foot 11 inches, a softball player and belly dancer.

Here is a CNN video on the model’s photo.

5 feet, 11 inches, 180 pounds, hardly “plus” size.

Maybe this and the Dove ads will help counteract the barrage of anorexic images that bombard girls and women. I wish they could accept aging and not look like freaks from botox, cosmetic surgery, etc, too.

  3. Joy Says:

Btw, she is beautiful and looks great. They call her plus-size? Sheesh!

Did you watch the video? The guy at the end (Ben Widdecomb, celebrity editor of Styleist.com) was saying that THAT photo was okay because it was being used in a body acceptance article…but that women wouldn’t really buy a magazine that wasn’t full of ‘aspirational’ photos (his word).

Like, we’ve ever been offered the choice??

And if he’s the ‘celebrith editor’ of a website called Styleist.com, he just MIGHT have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. Wouldn’t you think?

Yeah, what that guy said at the end of the clip was horrible.

  6. Joy Says:

    Yes, it was!
