See Lesley Gore and Other 1960s Stars on a Cruise Next Spring
If you’re a baby boomer — and who isn’t, these days? — you may recall singer Lesley Gore. Well, she’s alive and still performing. (By the way, Lesley is one of the Boomer Chronicles’s favorite lesbian stars!) If you want to hear her, along with other 1960s singing stars like Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Lou Christie, The Platters and The Drifters in all their middle-aged glory, you may want to book a spot on the Malt Shop Cruise, a gathering of ’60s stars that sets sail May 13-17, 2010, from Tampa to Cozumel. I’m too young to have been part of the malt shop crowd, but maybe some of my elders will be interested. By the way, I checked out the rates and they seem pretty reasonable.

Whenever I get nostalgic, I am saddened to realize that you cannot really go back; that the world is not what it once was. So, although I loved the music of those days, and listen to it often, I don’t want to see the artists as they are today anymore than I enjoy seeing the changes time has wrought on me.
But a cruise to Cozumel… that is enticing.

“It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to. You would cry to if it happened to you.” My favorite Lesley Gore record!! Boy she looks young. Interesting idea for a cruise but I agree with Douglas – there’s something a little sad about seeing singers from way back then now as older people. I wonder if they feel that way about us – their now older fans.

Well, I learn something new every day. I had no idea she was a lesbian.
