Take this Job and…(Part 4)

I've Moved! The Boomer Chronicles has closed after 6 years, but you can keep up with me on my new blog at http://www.rheabecker.com

There must be something you’d rather be doing than working at your job today, right? So, what is it?

  • Spending more time with your kids
  • Finishing the novel you always meant to write
  • Gardening
  • Helping your aging parents
  • Retreating to the woods
  • Etc., etc., etc.

As for me, I’d like to purchase a compact RV and see the country — on an extremely leisurely schedule.

What would YOU like to be doing?

I would love to be able to sit in my new yard and watch the leaves turn.

Writing a novel for the sheer pleasure of it sounds like fun. And that means no re-writes.

    :)

[...] Rhea over at Baby Boomer Chronicles wants to know what you would rather be doing if work didn’t get in the way. At the moment, it’s a good thing that I like what I’m doing, but there are times when I would simply like to put my feet up and just write a novel for the sheer fun of it. (I hate rewrites, so I wouldn’t do any!) But then I read what Rhea would prefer to do and I think I like her answer even better. [...]

Since I tried (and try is the key word!) finishing that novel when I had free time, I now know that seeing the country from an RV would be my choice, too … though I would like to have a bit more space, in which case, I imagine that one of those tour buses in which stars travel, complete with a driver, would be nice!

Hiking in Tibet. Or Las Vegas. Heh, heh.

But…but…I LIKE working! (Probably a good thing too, considering…)
Having more time to write and play would be good. If I could afford it, becoming a serious competitor in agility. Learn to sleep in.

Man, there are so many things I would rather be doing than my work, which is all SAHM work, I love the RV idea, but with my kids…I guess I know why people do it after their kids are out of the house. I would say right now, if I had my druthers, I would be just walking off the plane which has landed in Orlando (land of WARM!!) and heading for my resort, probably Saratoga Springs and planning to spend at least a week playing, soaking in the sun and forgetting my troubles. Ahhh… that was nice to imagine…time to brush the sand off my toes and get back to real life.

ponder, paint, draw, read, ski, garden, sit, surf, sleep, hang with my wonderful (and retired) hisband, spend some extended time with several friends, take a swimming class with my granddaughter, learn to weld, schedule practice time on the piano, create, create, create.

BTW….I’ve given this some thought…. I am officially retiring three months from today. Not sure if it’s my last paid job, but I have no plans to pursue or encourage “my career”. Been there, done that.

I think for the moment, I am happy with my job. It keeps me thinking, it keeps me responsible, and it keeps me interacting with other people. It only drives me insane sometimes, which seems fair enough.

But if I weren’t working, I would love to be reading, writing and taking more photographs. And swimming somewhere beautiful and warm.
