Homewrecker? It’s the Guy, Not the Woman
If anyone is going to be labeled a homewrecker, it’s Tiger, Elliot, John, Bill, Larry, George, etc., and not the woman or women they’ve hooked up with. There’s way too much misogyny being leveled at women who’ve had affairs with famous (married) men. Why aren’t men ever held accountable for their behavior? Because no one forces the issue. In our culture, it’s much easier to blame the woman. It’s got to stop.

I agree with you. Otherwise, the implication is that the guy is utterly helpless, not in command of his faculties. In which case, none of them should be running corporations, let alone lead wars….

Bravo, Maria! Well said.

Why aren’t men ever held accountable for their behavior? Men are held accountable. I think that it is a mis characterization to say otherwise. Spitzer isn’t in office anymore, now is he.
There are other examples as well. The accountability should be applied to both parties.

I could not agree more! If these men weren’t inclined to stray to begin with, none of the women involved would have been. It takes two but it always seems to focus on one – the female one. Well said!

Man at fault – woman at fault once she knows that man is a family man and continues with the relationship – goes for those who are famous and not famous.
An interesting side fact that I’ve observed is that there is more dialogue and finger pointing in the media than there is in private life. Perhaps, we can look at this as a “trickle down” factor that has made cheating and divorce commonplace.
Mistress and a man have always had a place in our world – this is not to say wrong or rightfully so – it just has been. Considering this and with a larger population since the baby boomers as well as a fairly big leap with the internet and instant communication – could it be that we have recognized a fact that has been – only more so in our conversations because of this?
In the end, consider that when the dust settles, and everyone either willingly or not willingly, has the moment in the spotlight – life goes back to the ordinary (even for the rich or famous) and those who have ridden the back of the famous to try for the gold ring – are starting to find themselves tarnished and an open book for the seemingly never-ending tabloids. More supermarket fodder and while I gaze at the headlines while waiting my turn – I shake my head. Even the teenage cashiers know better than those on the covers… female and male!

That is ridiculous. Are you serious. Do you give these women so little credit as to suggest that if a man winks at them they swoon. They bear responsibility just as the men do.

Oh, come on, Rhea. The ones being castigated and trod upon and otherwise being pilloried are the men in most of these situations, NOT the women. I couldn’t even NAME most of the women involved, but it’s Tiger, Bill, Gary Hart, whatever – they come to mind immediately because the blaring headlines and editorials and whatnot are mostly about them, not the women with whom they hooked up.
Sorry for the rancor of sorts – I know I’m usually cordial here – but I couldn’t let this pass.

The goat in all of this is the betrayed wife (or husband). I think people who want to fool should stay single and not have children.
A minority opinion and unrealistic, I know.
