What Are Your Wildest Climate-Summit Dreams?

The United States has historically been a foot-dragging behemoth, refusing to take part in the environmentally friendly changes that other nations readily adopt. The Copenhagen Climate Summit is in its final week now. Amy Goodman, co-founder, executive producer and host of Democracy Now!, a national progressive news program, wrote this in a recent blog post:

Indian scientist and activist Vandana Shiva was among those who addressed a climate justice rally of 100,000 Saturday in Copenhagen. Afterward, I asked her to respond to U.S. climate negotiator Jonathan Pershing, who said the Obama administration is willing to pay its fair share, but added that donors “don’t have unlimited largesse to disburse.” Shiva responded, “I think it’s time for the U.S. to stop seeing itself as a donor and recognize itself as a polluter, a polluter who must pay. … This is not about charity. This is about justice.”

What are your wildest Climate-Summit Dreams? For one thing, I would like to see an extensive public transit system that criss-crosses the U.S. And you?

Public transit is something we can definitely agree upon. I’ve long been an advocate for inexpensive inter-city and intra-city streetcars and/or subways. Anything that would bring that nearer to reality would be a blessing.

When the USA is on par with the pollution China emits, then I’ll listen, but until then, this is just massive, massive stupidity. Check your emails. Ha ha.

My wildest climate summit dreams? That the people will wake up and realize just how stupid this all is. I know, pure fantasy. Summits like these allow the self-anointed elite to take the stage and pass judgment on us all (while traveling about in private jets and limos) and some of them (the political ones) find additional means to amass more power and wealth upon themselves.

    Still, I can hope.

    Who is willing to sacrifice?
    After you.
    That’s the problem, isn’t it.

Public transit would be great. We don’t even have taxis.
2nd on my list would be to get the coal miners off the property next to us. They started core drilling last week.
