If Money Were No Object, What Work Would You Do?
If money were no object, what would you do for work? I can easily answer this question because I fantasize about it all the time. I have several answers:
- Farming or some kind of outdoor work (I love physical work and I love to sweat, but not gym-type sweat — real sweat)
- Drive a tourist trolley around Boston or be a chauffeur (I love to drive)
- Run a foundation that works on ending sexual violence (this is an issue I would be working on if I had a way to make a living doing it)
Here’s a blog post on a similar topic: getting a fun job in retirement.
So, name your fantasy job, no matter what it pays (or doesn’t pay).

I would study nature. Perhaps the daily life of black bears. And coyotes. Also plants in the forest — like a wild herbalist. I’d live all days “in the woods”.

I would travel around the world on archaeological digs.

Thanks for the link! Another one I forgot about would be to read books all day, like maybe working in publishing. But then if I didn’t have to work for a living maybe it’s just better to read books I choose rather than have the stress of choosing who to publish . . .

Same thing I did in the 60’s. Drugs man. Drugs.

I’d do what I do now, but I’d get paid for it.

I would do exactly what I’m doing, because money IS no object when you find out what you HAVE to do with your life. Midlife crisis is a great way to learn the lesson of not settling anymore with your life or your dreams!
There’s an old song that says: “Getting paid for doing something I’d be doing anyway…” If you love it and you help people, the money WILL follow!

I’ll be doing what I am doing now.
I’m retired and I went back to school to get my Masters in Social Work, I have my Bachelors in Electronic Technology.
However, traveling around the world on archaeological digs sounds fun… maybe once I get my MSW, I will explore going back to school to get a degree in archeology.

I would drive the Mattapan-Ashmont trolley in Dorchester and Milton. I’ve always loved that little trolley line.

I’d love to be a tour guide somewhere of a historical nature as I just love history and sharing it with others. I often wish I’d had the good sense to go be a park ranger at Gettysburg or another national battlefield. Lord knows how I ever ended up dispatching and answering 911 instead!

I would sell crafts or food at the local farmers market. Raise dogs, sell honey.

I’m doing it – & money is definitely not part of the equation. You don’t make much money teaching English, but you get the chance to travel the world & make all kinds of discoveries. To me that is much more valuable.

That’s an easy one. For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I’d be doing exactly what I’m doing right now. Travel, writing, and photography. I just wonder what took me so long to get here.

I’d also be doing what I’m doing now – life coaching and writing. It took me my first 50 years to find my passion! If money – and time – were no object, though, I’d add in more genealogy, knitting and gardening.
And if money is truly no object (and my son and daughter-in-law cooperate), I’ll be doing all this from my dream home in Martha’s Vineyard with my grandchildren playing in the yard and snuggling up periodically for hugs and kisses.
Thanks for the post, Rhea – focusing on my life vision is a great way to start Tuesday:-)

I am amazed by how many people are already doing what they love. CONGRATULATIONS, friends!
