Sorry, But Miniature Golf Does Not Count as Exercise
Here’s a really long list of various activities and the number of calories you would burn if you did one of these activities for an hour. The thing about this list is that it includes weird stuff like this:
Jai alai (708 cal.)
Carrying a load of bricks (472)
Miniature golf (177)
Unicycling (295)
Now tell me, how likely is it that you’re going to fit a game of jai alai or a unicycling session into your schedule this week?
It’s said that even if you exercise for just 5 minutes, it’s worthwhile.

None of those but I will probably get my lazy backside to the gym though
Hope you had a nice holiday!

Well, I don’t see vacuuming or dusting on that list, so how accurate can it be? I don’t see bitching at one’s husband….that has to use up some calories, how about sweeping the garage? carrying out corn for the deer that won’t migrate in the winter? Obviously this list is for the elite of the exercise world!

Rosemary, it is definitely not complete, but I found these on the list: Cleaning, heavy, vigorous effort
Cleaning, house, general
Cleaning, light, moderate effort
Now, I know bitching at your husband is not on there or the deer thing either, but we can make up our own calorie counts for these activities, can’t we?

Is it true that making love hardly uses any calories at all and barely counts as activity? If so, no wonder it is going out of fashion.

Cleaning…a catch all category. Vacuuming over time becomes almost an olympic event…timing, thoroughness, technique and then there is the equipment. Actually I have 5 pieces of equipment all used for the variety of vacuuming tasks at hand….stairs, carpet, window slides. Now that I think about it, bitching is an art don’t you think? Probably the only artistic talent I have. Your site really brightens my day. Now if they only had riding vacuums (stolen from Roseanne Barr).

So9, uh…I hate exercising (when I know I’m actually doing it) but uh..playing regular golf is good for me? Don’t tell me that!! I don’t want to quit.

I don’t think “hacky sack” counts as a sport either.

I see the odd UNicycler here and there on the streets of NYC. I always want to go knock them over, pretentious psuedo clown idiots.

I actually played amateur Jai alai in New Haven Ct many years ago. I think I need some of that exercise, I’m getting real doughy.

And I thought jai alai was just a crossword puzzle thang.

When I was a waitress 100 years ago & walked a million steps a day, I was told that wasn’t exercise because it was the same thing day after day. Jerkfaces. Now I walk up & down 3 flights of steps a day…every day…same thing. And I’m telling you – it’s exercise.

Does blogging burn many calories? How about watching someone exercise on TV? Is there a term for that?

Anything thing that you get better at, the more drunk you get, is NOT a sport also. So add Pocket Billiards and Bowling into the mix.

That’s good info to have! I was planning on riding my unicycle for a few hours today, but we got snow last night, so, I guess I’ll have to stick with carrying loads of bricks up and down the stairs in my house.

Bill, I always saw the jai alai place from the highway whenever I drove from Boston to NY. Now I know someone who played there.
Hi, Skinny,I’m detecting some unresolved anger toward unicyclists. I know a good doctor…
Swampwitch, To my understanding, an hour of regular blogging burns about the same amount of calories as a good, rapid game of tiddly-winks. An hour of snarky blogging will burn the same amount as an hour of downhill skiing.

Blogging Boomers Carnival…
It is no secret that the 77 million baby boomers – those born between 1946 and 1964 – are influential in virtually all aspects of American culture and life. Baby Boomers represent 27% of the U.S. population, 75% of its wealth, and have spending pow…

Man, it seems like the only thing that would make these activities worth it is if I were to gain weight and get up to 190 lbs….then I could really burn some calories.
