My Dog is Going Under the Knife, Sort Of
I've Moved! The Boomer Chronicles has closed after 6 years, but you can keep up with me on my new blog at http://www.rheabecker.com
If you are someone who does not have children (like Yours Truly), you sometimes tend to dote on your pets. My dog, or shall I say, Canine Prince, is having his teeth cleaned under anesthesia today. He has never been sick or needed surgery (other than his neutering) so I am a bit nervous about the anesthesia aspect of the procedure. But he’ll probably be fine. And besides, how cute would he be all groggy?

My dog really needs his teeth cleaned, but I am scared that the anesthesia could hurt him. Live and learn, eh? I now know canines need their teeth brushed regularly (if they will let you do it) or otherwise they end up needed drastic measures like tooth cleaning under anesthetic.
Good luck to you and your Prince!

I knew early on that dogs needed their teeth cleaned, but my boy wouldn’t let me! But I wonder, what do dogs do in NATURE? They don’t have toothbrushes in the woods.

He is probably much cuter than my husband will be when I take him home from his anesthesia and colonoscopy on Monday!
Seriously though, give your puppy extra hugs and kisses.

If someone hasn’t done so already, I’d be real happy to demonstrate for you how to brush your boy’s teeth — I do my cat’s all the time because I got tired of paying more for his dental care than my own in a given year!

Your cat is more cooperative than my dog, obviously, Linda!

Well, by now I am sure Canine Prince has happily recovered. My little toy poodle Fluffy (not named by me) also had this procedure — more than I have spent on health care for all my four children combined (but I live in the UK).
As for dogs in the woods — they don’t eat tinned dog food, and anyway there aren’t any dogs in nature that look like yours (or mine). Neanderthals in the woods probably had toothache. No doubt it is natural. That doesn’t mean we want it for our pets.

Duchess, yes, he sailed through his teeth cleaning! Interesting how your vet bills exceed your UK human health bills.
