Baby Boomers: Skin Tags and You
I’ve written about skin tags before. If you’re a baby boomer, you’d better become familiar with these nasty little freaks of nature. Skin tags will likely become a prominent part of your future.
I just spent an hour at my dermatologist’s office this morning and while she was performing a delicate little procedure, I seized the opportunity to interview her about skin tags so I could write about them in my blog.
Basically I asked her, “Are all skin tags removable?” She smiled and assured me, “Yes, they are.” The world is right again.

How weird that you pick this as a topic… I had one removed last week. ‘Cept mine had turned into a wart after too much picking. Now I have a bullet-hole-shaped scar on my leg. Age sucks.

TMI, TMI, Rick! But seriously, I bet no matter when I ran this post someone would write in and say I just had a skin tag removed. In fact, I would surmise that every 15 minutes a baby boomer somewhere on this planet has a skin tag removed.

Had them, had them removed…does not feel good afterwards…but necessary. Sad fact of aging…sucks.

No skin tags here
. But I do have a couple of fine looking age spots on my face. I wear ‘em as a badge of honor.

eeek…yuck…i had a couple of them removed … but according to a sign at my dermotologist it’s not covered by insurance.

Growing older is never bad when you consider the alternative.
March 13th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
LIked your post on the Route 66 with the links. Dermotologists become our best friends, non?
BTW — there is a NYC meetup via BlogHer. I can’t go but thought I’d let you know. It is next week. I still only know a handful of NYC area bloggers…

Too familiar. Those and warts on the neck area. They say you should visit a doctor if you get a new mole/wart/thing, but I’d be in the doctor every day! I think I am turning into a toad.

No skin tags for me either and I refuse to call the marks on my skin aging marks–they are “beauty marks” because baby boomer divas age gracefully.
Peace & Blessings,

I have recently discovered two. I don’t like them very much. They make me look as old as I am, and I don’t like that very much either. I don;t mind being my age, but it’s nice ot have people think that I look a few years younger.

There’s all kinds of skin tag activity here. Tag, you’re it!
March 13th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
I have skin tags, brown spots on my face, a liver spot or two on my hands, and strawberry moles everywhere. But they are mine and I refuse to get rid of them. Just stubborn, I guess.

Get them all the time. Some of them give up after a while and just drop off, leaving no trace. When one is in an awkward place where it gets irritated from being rubbed or chaffed, the dermatologist is my next stop.

So that’s what the things are called. Thanks.
Cool blog, btw.

Well, holy ol’ Joe! I’ll stop worrying now about forgetting to show the doctor THAT little “tidbit”… thanks for the link that eased my mind.
March 14th, 2007 at 2:34 am
I never had skin tags, neither my daughter was born with one. But sometimes ago, I saw a little one above her eye lids. I was worried, so I took her to our doctor and he removed it. It’s so easy.

Hi Rhea, thanks for dropping by my blog.
I had four skin tags removed from my neck when I was about 16 years old (many, many years ago!). Thankfully they haven’t grown back and no new ones have appeared.

Hmm. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to! That is, unless, I already have them and don’t know about them.
*goes off to check*

This whole subject makes my SKIN CRAWL!
March 15th, 2007 at 5:54 am
My husband has these.
March 15th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
I just got a NEW skin tag on my nose. My husband tries to wipe it off my face every other night and I have to keep telling him that it is a keeper! I’m thinking of trying removal myself.
March 16th, 2007 at 7:03 am
Oh my gosh! You post on some of the oddest things! I love it! I recently became familiar with skin tags when I developed one myself. Creepy little things, aren’t they?
March 16th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Vancouver: “Odd” is my middle name. Not really. But you will see that I love odd/weird stuff. Yep, those things are yuk.
March 20th, 2007 at 12:22 am
Oh my. Now I’m going to have to obsessively pore over every pore to look for wayward tags. My fave? Rogue hairs. I’m sure I shouldn’t have brought them up…but next to skin tags, how grossly cool are they?
March 20th, 2007 at 7:10 am
Jan hit the nail right on the head.

Skin tags are easy to remove by taking a long enough strand of your hair and tying it tightly around the base of the skin tag. Depending on the location, one might need help from a friend. Leave it tied there and in a few days, it will fall off. Saves trips to the dermatologist.
March 20th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Wendy: Hairs are totally gross.
Donald: Yup.

Didn’t have one till I was 53. If it didn’t come with the package 53 years ago, it’s out of here. It’s not that yucky. Just a little chunck of skin somewhere it shouldn’t be. Snip at the Doc’s office and it’s gone but I DON’T recomend removing them yourself.
March 21st, 2007 at 8:11 am
Pat: Some like to do it at home and some like the doctor to do it.
March 21st, 2007 at 4:44 pm
My wife made me tie a piece of thread around one of hers and within a few days it fell off.
March 21st, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Rhea – this is a subject that my husband is constantly complaining about! He has tried a home remedies – he can’t stand paying the doctor to remove them when they just grow back again!

Can anyone provide a receipe for a natural skin tag remover?
February 3rd, 2008 at 6:31 am
These things are not ok! I recently started getting these thangys on my neck. Have to get them removed! I don’t mind being 38. However, I don’t dig some of the things that come with it.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Don’t suffer if you have these and don’t pay those expensive doctor bills. I just removed two myslef…. very simply and painless. Hold a piece of ice on it for about 30 or 45 secs, then snip with a sharp pair of scissors or straight edge nail clippers. Honestly, it is completely painless. Just be sure to clean the area with alcohol and use an antibiotic ointment afterwards. I would also buy a new pair of clippers so that they are clean and fresh as well.
If you clip them close to the skin, it won’t even be irritated much afterwards, but if you leave any of the tag, it will be little sore, but will clear up in a couple of days. Seriously, you will feel no pain, and it took me a while to get up the courage as well. None of them have returned, although I occasionally get one in a new area. My friend paid $75.00 each to have the doctor freeze hers off and it was painful she said. I did it for free and it was painless.
